Toward a 21st Century Export and Technology Control Regime
Today the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) held a wide ranging and well attended export controls program in Washington, DC entitled "Toward a 21st Century Export and Technology Control Regime".
The program featured one of the broadest group of speakers at an export controls program to date, including a rare appearance at the same program by Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordan England and Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte.
Pierre Chao, a senior associate with the Defense Industrial Initiatives Group in the CSIS International Security Program, noted that export control reform efforts are currently front and center in Washington, DC as there are 18 separate export control reform studies currently underway, including the CSIS's own study. He noted that things have clearly reached a boiling point when it has reached the deputy secretary level at the relevant government agencies.

Recent Efforts: The View From the Hill - Comprised of a number of congressional staffers.
Perspectives From Other Recent Studies - Included the chairman of the Deemed Export Advisory Committee's study, the NATO Industry Advisory Group Export Controls Study and the Coalition for Security and Competitiveness.
Administration Reforms: Initiatives and Progress to Date - Featured senior officials from the Departments of State, Defense and Commerce.
The keynote address was made by Mario Mancuso, Undersecretary of Commerce for Industry and Security.
