Departments of State and Homeland Security Seeks Comments on Mandatory Use of Passport to Travel Into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico
The Departments of State and Homeland Security have published a notice in the Federal Register seeking comments on the implementation of section 7209 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA). Section 7209 is the provision that requires the use of a passport or other acceptable document for travel into the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda by both U.S. citizens and citizens of those countries by January 1, 2008. Although this is only an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking it should be of interest to companies with employees that travel between these points on a regular basis.
